Postal Orders of Basutoland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Postal orders are known to have been issued in Basutoland, however, information about the postal orders issued is very sketchy. An example of a 6d. (2d. on 1d. poundage) British Postal Order overprinted 'UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA' issued at Mafeteng on 27 June 1939 is known. It is a King George V issue that was issued posthumously during the reign of King George VI. Any postal orders issued in Basutoland are extremely sought after, as Basutoland issued neither coins nor banknotes.
