Possum Point

Coordinates: Possum Point is a peninsula that separates the Potomac River from Quantico Creek in Virginia, named for the Opossum. Dominion Virginia Power operates a power plant on the point. In 1861 a small engagement between Union Naval Gunboats and a Confederate battery at Possum Point helped lead to the closing of the Potomac to commercial traffic at the outset of the American Civil War.
