Positive (linguistics)

Positive is the form of an adjective or adverb on which comparative and superlative are formed with suffixes -ier, -lier, -iest, or -liest, or the forms more/less for polysyllabic adjectives/adverbs. In English, good is a positive adjectival form corresponding to the comparative better and the superlative best. In French, bon corresponds to meilleur and le meilleur, while in Spanish, bueno corresponds to mejor and el mejor. The related forms in Interlingua are bon, melior, and le melior.
