Pos (chess program)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pos (short for Poseidon) is a very experimental chess program. It does not use brute-force nor the Shannon algorithm for selecting moves. Pos is the first attempt at writing a chess engine by its author, Bullucks and cpp1 being the first and second attempt. Work on Pos was started as an aid in learning the Java programming language. Development started around August 29, 2006. The first 0.1 version was published on the internet at September 6 of 2006. The current aim of the program is experimenting with all kinds of alternative algorithms.
The program is written in Java, the source-code is not available though.
For output it can emit ASCII output, can use a UCI interface like Arena or an XBoard/WinBoard compatible interface.
It plays at the Free Internet Chess Server (FICS) with the name 'fjjvh'. At March 14, 2008 (running version 1.18) it had an Elo rating of around 350 while playing Blitz chess games.
