Portuguese beer

Beer in Portugal has a long history, going as far back as the time of Lusitania, where beer was commonly made and drunk.

Beer in Portuguese is Cerveja, it comes from the Latin word Cerevisia.

Todays breweries were started in Portugal in the 19th Century. The Portuguese dictator Antonio Salazar kept foreign investment out of the industry during his time in power.

In 2003, Portugal had 7 Breweries employing 1,848 people.[1]
