Port Melbourne railway station was located on the first significant railway in Australia, The station was opened in 1854 to carry passengers arriving at Station Pier to Flinders Street Station. The station and railway line was closed in 1987 and replaced later by Melbourne tram route 109. A lower platform has been built on the opposite side of the tracks to accommodate the trams.
The station was located north of Beach Street and to the east of Canberra parade, the station buildings have now been converted into a medical centre and cafe to serve the recent residential developments in the Port Melbourne area.
