Port Arthur Collegiate Institute High School was a high school in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The building was designated an historic building in 1984 and is located in Waverley Park (Thunder Bay).
It was part of the Lakehead District School Board system. The school was opened in 1910, and expanded several times in its history. The building was designed in the Prince Ann style using Simpson Island Stone.[1]
The old Port Arthur High School was opened on Janauray 8, 1889. On July 7, 1909 Mr. James Conmee, laid the cornerstone. On September 6, 1910 the school opened. The first Vox Studentium was published in 1915. the Principal was William B.L. Howard, staff Messrs, Cranston, Milne, Rosevear, and Whiddon and Misses Aitcheson and Cloney. [2]
The school's teams were named "P.A.C.I. Redmen".
It was styled after Yale University.
In 2007, students from Port Arthur Collegiate Institute we relocated to Hillcrest High School when their school closed.
Both PACI and Hillcrest are being replaced by a new, larger high school which is scheduled to open in 2009, at which time Hillcrest High School will also close.
Its amenities included a gymnasium, a 200-seat theatre, a large library and a modern music room.[3]
