Port80, sometimes known as Port-80, is a web industry association originally started in Perth, Western Australia in 2002.
The organisation incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2004 and now has chapters in capital cities around Australia. Their first chapter in the US opened in Rochester, New York in early 2006.
The aims of Port 80 are to:
- Further the advancement of the web industry of Australia
- Educate the general public about the role of professionals in the web industry;
- Foster greater ties with likeminded organisations
Port80 holds regular events and its forums are a hive of activity.
The term 'Port 80' comes from the technical name for the port service that the WorldWideWeb runs on.
