Category:Portuguese-Americans
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This listing contains articles relating to Portuguese-Americans, which are any individuals of European Portuguese ancestry born in the United States. Separate subsections focus on Portuguese surnames and typical cuisine.
Individuals that worked in the United States during significant portions of their career, and hail from European Portuguese roots, are also listed. In addition, city names and landmarks significant to Portuguese-American heritage or named in honor of Americans of Portuguese ancestry have been mentioned, as well as other articles associated with Portuguese-Americans, such as films dealing with Portuguese themes or characters, traditionally Portuguese neighborhoods or popular cultural references.
As noted in several articles, Portuguese-Americans are Americans strictly of Western European heritage. This does not include native-born Brazilians, regardless of ethnicity or race, nor does it include any "Latino" classification as used in the United States. "Latino" or "Hispanic" categories bear no relevance whatsoever to Portuguese ethnicity.
The main article for this category is Portuguese Americans.
