Ponta Preta (Maio)

Ponta Preta (Portuguese meaning the black point, Capeverdean Crioulo: Punta Preta, also in the São Vicente) is a point located in the north of the island of Maio and it represents the island's southernmost point in Cape Verde. The point is neighbouring its nearest town Vila do Maio and Barreiro to the north. Distance is approximately 4 km southeast of the island capital of Vila do Maio and about 3 km south of Barreiro. The point features a lighthouse.

The point are surrounded by rocky ledges. The hills dominate the northern part and its flatlands to the northeast and the northwest. It is accessed with a remote road linking with Vila do Maio and Barreiro, there are no other roads in the area.

The point offers a view of the Atlantic Ocean as well as some parts of the southern portion of the island. The northeastern part of the island of Santiago can be seen even on clearer days.
