Ponnur is a rural town and a municipality located 20 miles south of Guntur City in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

As of 2001 India census[1], Ponnur had a population of 56,504. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Ponnur has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 64%. In Ponnur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
This historic town is famous for temples.There are two famous temples, one is sahasralingeswara temple and another is bhavannaraya swami temple. In sahasralingeswara temple we can find out big satues for anganeya swami and garukmanthudu(eagle). This is a historical town. It is believed in the past that precious stones and diamonds were sold in streets of the town.
