[edit] B-class article drive
I see you've signed up to improve Bright Eyes (band). While I'm not a fan of the group (I actually, uh, dislike them very much), I have a some Spin and Mojo article on the group and Conor Oberst that might help. Let me know if you need assistance. WesleyDodds (talk) 01:37, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template:User category
Hi. I noticed that you edited Template:User category to try to emphasise the need for collaborative merit. While I support the idea behind the change, I'm a little concerned about some of the unintended consequences it may have.
Not all useful categories imply an interest in collaborating on articles related to the topic mentioned in the category title. For instance, the utility of language categories lies primarily in the ability to translate content rather than in an interest to collaborate on articles about the language itself. The same is true of software categories and the numerous Wikipedia-related categories (most of which I think we could do without, but that's another issue...). I'm also worried about whether the transcluded statement will unintentionally give a certain level of artificial legitimacy to categories whose primary purpose is not collaboration (e.g. support/oppose categories).
What do you think? – Black Falcon (Talk) 19:11, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think your addition reflects the consensus at UCFD, so I would like to see the statement remain in some form. Perhaps the simplest solution is just to reintroduce the statement and remove the template from the few categories to which it is not suited... There are relatively few such categories as most transclusions of the template are in "alma mater" categories. I'll try to implement that by tomorrow (I don't know why I didn't think of it before). Thanks, Black Falcon (Talk) 09:23, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Alt music B-class drive/Bright Eyes
Hi, if it's not too much trouble, do you mind telling me about any sources about the writing of Cassadaga? - I'm doing the Four Winds EP page in the drive myself. Will (talk) 22:18, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wikiproject Tool News
Maynard James Keenan has been nominated for GA and is currently on hold. It should be listed within the next couple of days. It has also been listed for peer review, and is planned for an FA nomination after a couple of reviews are completed. All help once the drive for FA begins is certainly appreciated!
In the meantime:
Thanks to everyone for all your hard work. The project is off to a great start! Lara❤Love 02:25, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Asylum album cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Asylum album cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:37, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template:User instrument
Let's do this!
<includeonly></includeonly>

- Out of nowhere you come up with this. Very nice : )
- My only question is about whether those in a -# subcat should also be in the parent cat (I seem to recall that, lately, that was frowned on.) - jc37 09:53, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
-
- Yes. Remove

if the parent cat should be empty save for userpages that transclude the general template. I don't care. –Pomte 09:56, 24 February 2008 (UTC)- Done. - jc37 23:08, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

RfA - interested? : ) - jc37 22:03, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- I recall being asked once before, but not by you. What's with the lack of editing at User instrument? Don't pressure me into becoming admin for me to have to do it. I spend too much time here anyway, easier just to tell you what to do, e.g. protect usbk and related templates for high use. I'll definitely let you know when I'm interested. –Pomte 22:39, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- (rather taken aback)
- - a.) User instrument somehow fell on the "back burner". I vaguely recall actually discussing with the page's creator.
- - b.) pressure you? Nope, not now, not ever. (There are others who I have "pushed" a bit in good humour, But I don't believe my above comments come even close.)
- - c.) I'm strongly hoping that the above was said tongue-in-cheek. - jc37 23:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Marilyn Manson - Portrait of an American Family.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Marilyn Manson - Portrait of an American Family.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:24, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Since you've commented on WP:CANSTYLE before, I was wondering if you have any thoughts on Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board/Style guide#Neighbourhoods? Skeezix1000 (talk) 19:46, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Maynard James Keenan discography
I've worked this back into the article, as it is very redundant of the main discographies, which I should have considered before creating it. I'm planning to tag it for deletion, but I wanted to get everyone's input first. Please reply here or drop a line on my talk page. Regards, Lara❤Love 02:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] WP:Wikiproject Tool update
A few updates in events:
- Maynard James Keenan has been listed for copy-edit at the WP:LoCE, however, the backlog is quite long. Therefore, if anyone has copy-editing skills, please go over the article. I would do it myself, but I've done quite a bit of work on the article and I am incapable of copy-editing my own work.
- Maynard James Keenan discography has been worked back into the bio and has been determined to be redundant of the main discographies. It will most likely be deleted this week.
- Devo Keenan has been created. I think this is a good opportunity for the project to get together and create a DYK entry. The article needs to be expanded and referenced. Hopefully this is possible. I've not yet looked to see how much information is available. Please take time to help with this, if you can. We have four days!!
Thanks to everyone who has helped thus far. The project is still very new, but good progress is being made! Lara❤Love 03:59, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Improving Facebook to Featured Article status
I am currently working on improving Facebook to Featured Article status, and I noticed that you have made substantial contributions to the article recently. If you have time, I would appreciate it if you could help out and improve the article. Some comments by other editors have been left at the peer review, Wikipedia:Peer review/Facebook/archive2, so feel free to address those issues, also. Thanks for your time! [edit] AfD nomination of Rachel Marsden
An editor has nominated Rachel Marsden, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rachel Marsden (4th nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:00, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Yo
This review, that you removed from MJK's bio, I believe was written by a member of the Prog Archives staff. One of 92 reviews from him on the site. Am I reading the site incorrectly? Without this source, or another to replace it, we'll probably need to remove the sentence it follows. Lara❤Love 19:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- The author is a Prog Review. "Prog Reviewers devote their time to writing reviews that give visitors/members an insight into the vast amount of music that is covered by the site."[1] But still, the reviews are self-published and Prog Archives isn't a known review publication. If it is to be cited, there's a bunch of other praise for the lyrics in the other reviews for Lateralus as well.[2]
- (Unrelated: Looking through that list, someone on that site has a Tool-inspired username like mine.)
- On the article, I think it's not a big loss to remove "Keenan was acclaimed for his songwriting on the album". One could say that he's been acclaimed for his songwriting on all Tool albums, there are probably numerous reviews that favour the lyrics of each. It's hard to tell which is more acclaimed, you'd have to skim through a ton of them.
- The "dark, intelligent, compelling, and unexpected lyrical twists" quote right before that is a general comment not specific to Lateralus, so maybe it should be moved to the 'Writing and performance style' section. –Pomte 20:40, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

HELLO MY USER NAME IS POMTE, YA STRANGE ISNT IT. I DONT KNOW WHY I PICKED IT, BUT I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH MY REAL NAME BEING WORSE. ITS PRETTY BORRING MOST OF THE TIME SO WHEN IM NOT PICKING UP CHICKS (HA HA HA I WISH) IM USUALLY ON WIKIPEDIA CORRECTING VANDALISM. ITS KIND OF LIKE BEING A COP, EXEPT YOU DONT HAVE TO BE IN SHAPE OR BE OUT IN THE REAL WORLD. YOU STILL GET TO RUIN PEOPLE'S FUN THOUGH, SO I LIKE IT. [edit] Doin' the splits
- "How do you not strain your muscles? It looks like you performed the splits forwards and then upside down over at WP:UBX and its subpages. Actually, I don't even want to know. Here's an aerobatic barnstar. –Pomte 15:57, 12 April 2008 (UTC)"
- Well, at first it seemed smarter to "split" up the page at "Design and construct". But then in hindsight I realised that (potentially in the future) it could be transcluded on more pages than just Wikipedia:Userboxes. So I'd better make sure that that section was fully intact in one location. So essentially, I reverted the moves/splits to "content" and "construct" back to a unified "Design and construct". (If any of that makes sense...)
- I've also been working on removing all the personal shortcuts to Wikipedia:Userboxes. It seems everyone had their own preferred form which only they used.
- The only one left that needs doing (since it was a bit more broadly used) is WP:BOX. It really should be used for the Wikipedia:Sandbox. It shouldn't be much of an effort to change the links to BOX to point to UBOX instead. (I just don't have the tools to make it convenient : )
- Anyway, Thanks for the barnstar. Hope you're having a great day : ) - jc37 16:17, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe WP:BOX should have redirected to the sandbox to begin with, but now it seems too late. With ~408 incoming links over 2 years including many over the past few months, I'm not sure it's worth altering people's conception of it. Anyone searching for WP:BOX would be acquainted with WP: prefixes, and so would probably try WP:SAND immediately afterwards (if they happen to miss the hatnote on WP:BOX). –Pomte 18:04, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
-
-
-
- Well, 408 actually isn't all that much compared to most other shortcuts I've seen. That and I think we're all better off making it easier to get to the sandbox. And even after my pruning, there's still a great many shortcuts to Wikipedia:Userboxes : ) - jc37 20:45, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question Regarding Tournament Brackets
Hi. I was wondering if you could assist me with an unorthodox tournament bracket which I would like to look similar to this: Unusual Tournament. Are there any templates that can currently achieve such a bracket? I made an attempt to design one myself but it didn't work out very well. Any help would be much appreciated.
