Template talk:Politics of New Zealand

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Would anyone object if I made the borders in this template a little smaller? At the moment the template looks a little blocky and aesthetically unpleasing. El T 22:53, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Good work to whoever fixed it up. El T 03:12, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Constitution Article

Changed links to the Queen of New Zealand and Governor-General to point to the Constitution article.

[edit] Template Change

I propose we change the current template to a new one i have created. The current one is very large and when added to articles it clutters the page so i have made a collapsable vesion of the current one, but is more convinient.

This the my proposed template below. Taifarious1 07:53, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Looks good; I've made some minor changes (removed duplicate constitution links, corrected link to political movements (shouldn't this be political parties?)), but I think it does the same as the older version, but is prettier and more compact. IdiotSavant (talk) 04:23, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah right, yeah i think your way is much better. But im not too sure if i should change it or not seeing as some people not might want it changed etc. What do you suggest? Taifarious1 06:20, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Leave it up here for a week or so and see what other people have to say. If supports outweigh opposes, then change it. You might also want to point people at WikiProject NZ at it, so they have a chance to comment. IdiotSavant (talk) 06:30, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
First, I don't like the top image - can we retain the NZ coat of arms? Second - is it meant to expand at all? It doesn't for me and there are no expander links aor anything similar visible. Lastly, a link to the non-NZ article Judiciary seems pointless. dramatic (talk) 07:22, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
I quite like the image, and it would probably look wrong if undimmed. IdiotSavant (talk) 10:52, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

I think the top image is quite effective, nd i chose to change it becuase i really didnt like the Coat of Arms on the previous one, and yes it expands, on my computer it does anyway, and obviously does for the previous people who have commented, so I think that may just be you. And i think the Judiciary link should remain, mainly because most people mightnt know what it means, unless you find a more relevant article to like it to of course. Can you make it full-colour then, not washed out and deathly looking? (I would call that a POV image as it is). I've checked in all available browsers, and the "show" links are only appearing in Firefox, not in Opera or Internet Explorer.- so it works for 20% of users at best. What is completely unacceptable is that it is still collapsed when Javascript is disabled. The styles to do the collapsing should be loaded by a script (an approach known as progressive enhancement) so that they don't make things inaccessible in the absence of scripting. I'm guessing this isn't your fault, as the templates you appear to have based this on have the same problem. IMO the template can't be introduced until the JS issue is fixed and it works in the top four browsers. dramatic (talk) 08:46, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
That makes no sense since im using IE and its working fine. Taifarious1 09:00, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm also having no problems with IE or Firefox. IdiotSavant (talk) 10:52, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, it works in Opera when I log out! possibly a conflict with Wikipedia:TWINKLE. However, I never logged in with MSIE (v6 with all updates)? dramatic (talk) 03:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Any objection to me switching them tomorrow? Taifarious1 05:10, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
