[edit] School location

The school's webpage [1] states that the Middle / Upper school is located in Bay Ridge, not Dyker Heights. We should go with what the school's official webpage states. However, if you believe that the school's location should be listed as Dyker Heights, please explain so on this talk page. —Brim 03:21, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I'd just taken that part from the Dyker Heights article, which says the school's within it. Either way, I'll change it.Xalfor 16:29, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Location?

Poly Prep sits on land that was formerly part of the Dyker golf course and trails. Year have gone by many people dont know that but the school border both areas. The school borders a not so wealthy sections of bayridge but does border the wealthy section of Dyker. Obviously they would like to associate the school with a more wealthy area, but the zip code may technically land them in Bay Ridge. The point is the school in right next to Dyker Golf course and right next to the military fort Fort Hamilton so I say the school is in Dyker since it was built on its golf course. I live in brooklyn my niece attended the school I attended Xaverian I know what i am talk about, screw what the sight says.

[edit] A Poly Grad votes for Bay Ridge

-It's in Bay Ridge.

I spent 8 years at Poly, 5th grade through graduation. The first line of the school song may be "Far down on the Heights called Dyker...", but that song was the only time ANYONE ever referred to "Dyker Heights" on campus.

It's really an anachronism to say that Poly's in Dyker Heights. It's like talking about "The City of Brooklyn". May have been true once, but it's doesn't seem to reflect the reality on the ground.

You say "Bay Ridge", lots of us think "Italian". "Dyker Heights" sounds snootier and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WASP">WASP</a>-ier which, being a prep school (and given the school's early history), is probably what some who prefer "Dyker Heights" are trying for.

But to me, the zip code says it all. It's in Bay Ridge.

Nick Baban, Class of '87

As a current poly student, (Form III), the school is always referred to as in Bay Ridge. Dyker Heights is, as other people have said, just the administration trying to make it sound snootier.

What's the tune of the alma mater? It looks like it fits the rhythm of Far Above Cayuga's Waters. JDoorjam Talk 17:29, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Seems to me that children of celebrities/famous parents do not belong on this list. Harrison789 (talk) 01:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
