[edit] Riot/crowd control duties

PTG's are NOT used for riot/crowd control duties as one poster suggested.

Reference to the Melbourne WEF and Sydney APEC is irrelevant as neither events had PTG members performing crowd control/riot duties etc. The Victorian Special Operations Group would no-more attend a protest/crowd control situation then it would attend a motor vehicle accident etc. They do not train or equip for such duties. Crowd control and riots are dealt with (in every State) by officers trained and equipped specifically for those duties, such as the Victorian Police 'Force Response Unit' and the NSW Police 'Public Order and Riot Squad'. Both those units deal with crowd control/riots/protests etc, but neither deal with high-rish/tactical/terrorist/siege situations that PTG's deal with.

Regarding the WEF demonstrations (http://www.ombudsman.vic.gov.au/resources/documents/Investigation_of_Police_action_at_the_World_Economic_Forum_demonstrations.pdf) Not ONE refernce is made in the alleged citation to Victorias PTG, the Special Operations Group, thus validating what I have said above.
