Poly Styrene is the stage name of Marian Joan Elliott Said[1] (born 1957), best known as the singer of English punk rock band X-Ray Spex. She also recorded a solo album, Translucence, in 1980. In 1986 Styrene released the EP God's & Godesses [sic] on the Awesome record label.
[edit] Personal life
In the 1980s she joined the Hare Krishna movement and recorded at the movement's recording studios. She lives with her husband (a fellow priest) and daughter Celeste in London. Elliott is of part Somali ancestry.
X-Ray Spex are best known for their album Germ Free Adolescents released on EMI in 1978. Neneh Cherry was impressed enough to cover the title track. A reunion album Conscious Consumer in 1995 echoed the concerns of the band's debut.
