Pollycarpus Priyanto

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto (born 1961) is a former Garuda Indonesia airline pilot. He is alleged to have poisoned human rights activist Munir Said Thalib with arsenic on September 7, 2004. On August 8, 2005, he went on trial for the alleged murder.

In December 2005, Priyanto was found guilty and sentenced to fourteen years' imprisonment. In October 2006, his charge was annulled by the Supreme Court, citing insufficient evidence.[1]

He was freed on December 26, 2006, after receiving a month reduction on his sentence - less than the time remaining to serve - as part of a holiday amnesty.

The Supreme Court then re-opened the case for a judicial review and he was sentenced again on January 24th 2008, this time to 20 years. [2] [3]
