Pollos Frisby is the first Colombian fried chicken chain to come to Queens, New York City, New York, United States. It is a company which was founded more than 25 years ago in a Colombian medium size city, Pereira. It started as a pizzeria; however, later its owners decided to enter into the fast food business and finally into the fried chicken market. Frisby was the first Colombian fried chicken chain and now, it has more than 100 restaurants in 24 Colombian cities. It is the first fried chicken restaurant in the nation and the third company in the ranking of the best Colombian fast food.The Company decided to open its doors in Queens, New York in July 2007 to commemorate the 100th restaurant. Frisby is located in Jackson Heights, on Northern Boulevard between 83rd and 84th St.
The opening of this restaurant in Queens, New York is the result of a Company's expansion plan which started in 2006. The plan responds to a demand of more than 100,000 Colombians and more than 500,000 Latin American people who live in the great apple.
Since 2006, Frisby has the certification ISO 9000, ISO 9001:2000, which approves that the quality system used in the food's manufacturing and service is according to the food and restaurant's Icontec norms. Frisby is a growing company that provides more than 1290 direct positions and 4000 indirect employment opportunities. The Company also has a high level of social conscience being benefactor of more than 500 children whose families lack economic sources to afford the cost of pre-school, elementary and secondary studies. The foundation, Instituto Technologico de Dosquebradas,promotes technical education in food.

Frisby has different options which are a clear example of the Colombians' diet and preferences. Such dishes differ from American fried chicken restaurants because they incorporate products such as plantains, arepas, and honey.

In Colombia, the major competition for Frisby is Kokoriko, followed by Pollos Carioca, Pollos Brasa Roja and other minor fried chicken restaurants. In New York, Mc Donald's, KFC, and Popeyes fast food restaurants represent the most important competition for Frisby.
