Politics in Hitchin

Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England, is currently represented on four different tiers of Government.
- North Hertfordshire District Council (District)
- Hertfordshire County Council (County)
- East of England Regional Assembly (regional)
- Parliament of the United Kingdom- part of the Hitchin and Harpenden Constituency

Prior to 1974, Hitchin had its own council, Hitchin Urban District Council, but in 1974 this became part of North Hertfordshire District Council. There are five wards in Hitchin: Walsworth, Oughton, Highbury, Priory, and Bearton.

The Hitchin constituency was established in 1885 and dissolved in 1983, where is was renamed Hertfordshire North. In 1992, a new constituency Hitchin and Harpenden was created.
