Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland is intended to provide an independent, impartial police complaints system for the people and police under the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 and 2000.
The first Ombudsman was Nuala O'Loan, who stood down in 2007. O'Loan was rewarded for her services as Ombudsman by being appointed a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II[1]. She, along with the other recipients of 2008 New Year's Honours, were congratulated by First Minister Ian Paisley [2].
Former Oversight Commissioner, Al Hutchinson, has been appointed as her replacement and took up the office on 6th November 2007 [3].
