Policast.com

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Policast.com was the first Internet radio station established as a commercial venue to broadcast political news and commentary. Begun on April 10, 2000 [1], the station was operated by Victory Radio, a closed corporation headed by Steve Grubbs.

Grubbs was the former chairman of the Iowa Republican Party and former Iowa campaign manager for Steve Forbes. Billing itself as "All Politics Internet Radio... All The Time", the station had a staff of four editor/reporters and station manager Gary Barrett. The station's most notable achievement was to be alongside Voter.com and the other emerging dot-com-media operations broadcasting live from the Republican and Democratic Party conventions in 2000. This was the first time that the political parties began embracing the emerging Internet media, with Policast.com and the other outlets getting their own media center location, equalling the space devoted to print and over-the-air broadcast media. As with many of the dot-com startups of the era, Policast.com failed to develop a revenue model necessary to sustain it, and it closed its operations after over a year of operation.
