Polar bear plunge

A polar bear plunge is an event held during the winter where participants enter a body of water despite the low temperature. Polar bear plunges are usually held to raise money for a charitable organization.

Polar bear plunges have been used by many states in recent years to raise money for the Special Olympics. In Maryland, the 2007 Maryland State Police plunge raised $2.2 million and had 7,400 participants. [1]
