Polar Operational Environmental Satellites
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Polar Operational Environmental Satellite (or POES) project is a joint effort between National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and international partners providing scientific data from a constellation of low-earth orbiting satellites used for weather prediction. The Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is responsible for overseeing the manufacture, integration and test of these satellites[1], and on-orbit satellite operation is performed by NOAA's Office of Satellite Operations (OSO). The POES constellation consists of both TIROS and MetOp satellites.
