[edit] Beast Wars

He's one of the Maximals from Beast Wars, and his beast form is a polar bear. After Optimus Primal, he's the the second in command within his team according to the Tech Specs.

A foot soldier with a hunter's instinct, this ballistic bear is equipped to command front-line infantry battles against the evil Predacons. Along with his savage teeth and ferocious fangs, his most devastating weapons include a quick-firing robotic bat, which features sonar sensors to detect enemies and alert Polar Claw for combat at all times -- and at all costs!

[edit] Animated series

Polar Claw's stasis pod was presumably among those who were launched into orbit around prehistoric Earth in the Beast Wars series pilot.

[edit] Dreamwave Productions

Although the limited series Beast Wars comics wasn't published before the company went out of business, previews of the art were produced. Along these was art of Polar Claw fighting Spittor. This art was nearly identical to the art seen in the later IDW Beast Wars series, but used Polar Claw's mutant face, not his robotic one.

[edit] IDW Publishing

Polar Claw appeared in the 2006 IDW Beast Wars comic series. He was among the Maximal protoforms from the Axalon which was recovered by Magmatron's Predacons and infected with a Predacon shell program. Unbeknownst to Magmatron, his technical expert Razorbeast was a Maximal double-agent and had managed to modify the program so a significant number of those infected emerged as Maximals.

He initially was encountered by the Predacon Spittor, and injured him.

Polar Claw then spent quite a while trying to find the other Maximals, eventually joining them in the battle against Magmatron's Predacons.

After the defeat of Magmatron's Predacons the united group of Maximals awaited rescue from Cybertron.

He appears among the Maximals on the cover of the first issue of the sequal story Beast Wars: The Ascending.

[edit] BotCon comics

Air Hammer, B'Boom and Polar Claw appeared among the Maximals who arrived to help stop Shokaract in the Reaching the Omega Point storyline at BotCon 2000. Although not portrayed directly, it is assumed he was killed by Shokaract in the battle.

[edit] Toys

  • Beast Wars Polar Claw (1996)
Like many of the first year Beast Wars molds, Polar claw sported a robot and mutant face, a bat drone, and a spring loaded claw.
The original Polar Claw toy was released around the same time as the Predacon Scorponok, who was the same size class and had a similar drone.
He was repainted as Japanese exclusive Grizzly-1 and Survive.

[edit] Trivia

Among the first year Maximal toys in Beast Wars, Polar Claw was the second highest ranking, suggesting that he was Optimus Primal's second in command in the toyline.
