Wikipedia talk:Pokémon Adoption Center/Next

Do we even have an article for the first movie? Sonic Mew | talk to me 14:30, August 12, 2005 (UTC)

Sounds like a good article to try to get up to featured article status. Almafeta 07:36, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Characters

The layout for this seems pretty simple.

  • Pokémon characters - We already have Category:Pokémon characters for this. All of the lists and individual articles should be in this cat, or a subcat.
    • Pokémon gym leaders - Category, maybe. Make it a subcategory of C:PC, if the consensus is that this merits a cat, but I don't think it does.
      • Kanto gym leaders - List article, heavy on section stubs with See Also links for characters who merit their own article (Brock, Misty, Giovanni, etc.
      • List of Johto Gym Leaders - Good thing someone was bold and made this. ;) If anyone breaks out, do the same as with Kanto.
      • List of Hoenn Gym Leaders - Likewise.
      • Orre gym leaders - Make a list. Are any of these on Wikipedia yet?
    • Pokémon anime characters - Make a list in the style of List of minor Pokémon anime characters. Everyone else goes in C:PC.
    • Pokémon manga characters - Likewise.
    • Pokémon video game characters - Likewise.

That's how I see things breaking down. I don't think Gym Leaders or anime/manga/game deserve their own subcats; I can't see the C:PC having more than 50 standalone articles ever. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 18:45, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Note that was a list of categories to make, not a list of articles for you to merge things to. And please, please don't change my comments around -- "be considerate" is an order of magnitude more important than be bold. Almafeta 20:35, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
Lists and categories serve much the same purpose, for different types of information. Ofttimes a list can serve better than a category for a small set of topics even if those individual subjects have individual articles, particularly when the information is significantly more useful with an introduction to lend context, when the set is fairly small, and when each member in the set can be effectively summarized for quick reference. I'd say that describes sets of characters with defining attributes rather nicely.
As for rearranging, I thought PAC/Next was a proposal, not a page for dialogue, and that Wiki thinking (don't post it if you don't want it edited mercilessly) applied, as the comments were unsigned. I moved it to talk, and signed my version, so no attempt to appropriate your comments was intended. Indeed, no uncivility was intended by this at all, simply my thoughts in implementing structure. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 20:52, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] List of Articles

Right, I'm quite confused by the above so I think that we should make a list of articles we want about Pokémon on Wikipedia. Please add to this list.

[edit] Discussion

Is that all? --Celestianpower hab 16:02, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

I added some. Do Meowth and Meowth (anime character) need to be separate articles? I tagged them for merging earlier today, and I was going to do that when I got around to it.
Likewise, some of the main character links up there are somewhat...tenuous. Professor Ivy is far from a main character, barring the creation of a gender-swapped Honeymooners-like Pokémon spinoff starring her and Brock. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 16:36, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
Restructured the list a bit, and added some more thoughts. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 16:53, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
Added some new thoughts. The cities/towns might be best off merged. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 23:03, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
No - I am totally adverse to that. It isn't going to happen. --Celestianpower hab 09:37, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Er. Any reason for that? The places seem to be even less important than the people. All you can really say about them is where they are relative to other places, who lives there, and maybe what happened there. I don't see how you can get a full article out of that, without bloating the article with episode synopses. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 09:55, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Where are they? Who lives there? What happened there? Why is it significant? There is much to say and looking at lots of the articles, they're quite substantial as is. --Celestianpower hab 10:22, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Tell you what. Let's give it a Wikipedia:Poképrosal go. Rewrite Fuchsia City into an article that can unquestionably stand on its own, and I'll be convinced. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 10:30, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Pokémon Abilities is a game spoiler list, and is absolutely not Wikipedia material, despite how much it's linked elsewhere. Notable Pokémon abilities can be mentioned in the individual articles (as in Kyogre), and the rest, well, Template:pokeinfobox has a link to the Wikibook. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 23:03, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
Added a bit more blatant mergism WRT items in Pokémon. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 01:12, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
Oh. There's already a list. Well then. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 01:14, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

Added some more thoughts, and removed a couple articles already merged. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 04:28, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Up to Featured article Status

The following is which articles could become featured at a later date:

Any more? I'm sure there must be. --Celestianpower hab 17:06, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

I don't think Mew could be made into a featured article, though. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 17:08, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

Possibly not however, all of these articles could become featured but i think its unlikely that people 'll accept more than Satoshi Tajiri, Pokémon, Pokémon Red and Blue and Pikachu though, sadly. --Celestianpower hab 17:12, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
You say that, but, then again... Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Wario seems to be doing well. - A Man In Black (Talk | Contribs) 17:19, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
Yeah - It's a good article. I would say wario is to the Mario World as Team Rocket is to Pokémon. --Celestianpower hab 17:24, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
I don't think Pokémon stands much of a chance, seeing as it's so high-profile... articles that are edited very often don't get featured, as an article that is constantly changing does not represent "the best that Wikipedia can offer." With that in mind, I think that if PAC works on a game, Pokémon Red and Blue is the way to go -- it started all of this, for pete's sake! Almafeta 19:49, 13 August 2005 (UTC)
