[edit] Information

Hamasaki had already released music under Nippon Columbia in 1995, a mini-album called Nothing from Nothing; however, the album failed to chart on the Oricon, and shortly after the album's release, Nippon Colombia dropped Hamasaki. The original rendition of "poker face" was never released, as Hamasaki re-wrote the lyrics after the initial recording.[citation needed]

[edit] Chart performance

Poker face entered at #20 on the charts with 11,520 units sold in its opening week and it sold about 50,000 copies.[2]

[edit] Commercial tie-up

The song was used as the opening theme of a Japanese TV show called CDTV. The b-side song, "Friend" was featured in an Audi German TV commercial for the A4.
