Pokémon League
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pokémon League is a fictional area in the Pokémon anime, manga and video game series where the main character or player (a Pokémon trainer) faces a series of Pokémon trainers who are considered the best in the region. These trainers are called the Elite Four. A trainer may only go to the Pokémon League in a specific region when he/she has obtained all of the badges from the Gym Leaders in that region. The final trainer that one must face in the Pokémon League is called the Pokémon Champion, and is often one of the hardest enemies in the region. After defeating the Pokémon Champion, the trainer who won is often declared the new Pokémon Champion. A trainer may or may not remain to protect their title, as is evidenced in the video game series, where the player leaves to pursue new interests.
Introduced in the Pokémon Crystal version of the video game series is the Battle Tower, which is only accessible after defeating the Pokémon League in that region. The player may face a series of enemy trainers, which are often more difficult than the Elite Four trainers, in order to obtain special prizes or points. In Pokémon Emerald, the Battle Tower is in an area known as the Battle Frontier, and in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl the Battle Tower is in the Battle Zone.
