[edit] Origin of polhode?

"Polhode" is used in connection with the motion of the Earth's Pole. As to herpolhode, the repetitious loops along a circular path in the invariable plane suggest the coils of a snake and the circumpolar constellation Draco might encouraged this usage. Both terms are used in association with tops. --Jbergquist 02:53, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
