Poison is a song by artist Alice Cooper, released worldwide as a single in 1989 and is featured on his 18th studio album Trash. The song was one of his biggest hit singles in his home country, the United States, peaking at #7 on the singles chart, while peaking at #2 in the UK, only being held off the top spot by hit dance record, "Swing the Mood" by Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers.

This song is one of Alice Cooper's most well-known songs, and provided his last major mainstream hit, in 1989. It has been covered many times by recent pop bands, such as Groove Coverage on 7 Years and 50 Days. The most recent cover is by Tarja Turunen (ex-lead singer of Nightwish) on her 2nd studio album My Winter Storm.

The lyrics describe the narrator's love for a femme fatale, but it has been speculated that the woman may not be "the poison running inside my [Cooper's] veins." The song changes key 4 times in the chorus, quite unusual in a straight rock song.

[edit] The Music Video

The video to the song shows Alice Cooper being chained to a bizarre mechanism and having a ghostly woman looming over his body while he sings. The video had to be censored for showings during the day, due to nudity involving a woman, (played by Rana Kennedy), showing her breasts and wearing nothing but a pair of black pants, looming between lots of chains as Alice watches on. The video is still often played on VH1 Classic's Metal Mania with alternate non-nude scenes.

[edit] Cover Versions

It has also been covered by Finnish singer Tarja Turunen on her 2007 symphonic metal album, My Winter Storm.
