Pohjalaisia

Pohjalaisia is a three-act opera by Leevi Madetoja composed during the years 1920-1923. It premiered October 25, 1924. It was also performed in Stockholm in 1927 and in Copenhagen in 1938 Later he also modified it into an orchestral series. The opera was based on the play of the same name, written by Artturi Järviluoma, which was also filmed under the title Kankaankylässä. The opera was revived at Finnish National Opera in the 1956-1957 season.[1]
