Pogranichny

Pogranichny (Russian: Пограничный, 44°24′N, 131°23′E) is an urban-type settlement in Primorsky Krai, Russia and an administrative center of Pogranichny District.

Population: 12,100 (2005 Est.).

It was founded in 1898 as railway station Grodekovo after Nikolay Grodekov, Amurian Gouvernor. The settlement got new name in 1958 and means frontier.

Today Pogranichny is located in 15 km east from Russian-Chineese border and 140 km (near 200 km by autoway) north-west from Vladivostok.

Russian actor Leonid Yarmolnik and Mayor (after 2003) of Barnaul Vladimir Kolganov were born in Grodekovo. Russian poet Arseny Nesmelov died there.
