[edit] Do You Knows?

I copied last week's DYK, as we'd "redlinked" again on these. If folks could add some to the archives going forward, it would be great. Thanks, Sam 16:11, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm going to take a more active role in DyK. Would it be improper of me to ask if someone could take over the quotes and selected pictures? For whatever reason I have no interest in those 2 areas. I should be able to keep us fresh on most other areas, but it's great when you guys contribute, too. AdamBiswanger1 15:41, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Updating

If anyone wants to insert a featured article or featured biography, feel free to move mine out of the way to make yours appear sooner. AdamBiswanger1 02:36, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A reminder

To get this to Featured status, we're going to have to make sure that every article we link to is phenomenal. In the quote and DYK sections, let's make sure the articles are at least servicable. AdamBiswanger1 15:47, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks to the suggestions of Kirill Loshkin, I have given this portal an extremely time-consuming facelift, and the format has just about reached featured status. Any time you add a selected

article/biography/poem/quote, please copy the markup for the Archive and read more links, making sure that "read more" links to the appropriate article. Thanks. AdamBiswanger1 02:13, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Poetry awards and lists of poetry awards: A proposal and request for opinions

On the Talk:Poetry prizes discussion page there's a proposal to merge that list with List of poetry awards. I've been adding to the second page and creating poetry-awards articles, and I'd appreciate advice, or even just a sense that I'm creating these things correctly. I've also got suggestions about organizing awards lists for poetry as more awards articles are created. I'm hoping that early on I can get some consensus on what these should look like. I'd appreciate it if editors with an interest in poetry could please visit that page and contribute to the discussion. Noroton 18:59, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Updates and red links

Updates need to be provided and all red links removed from content sections immediately or this portal will be demoted from the featured portal list. Thanks,--cj | talk 01:12, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Taken care of- thanks AdamBiswanger1 04:50, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing up the updates. However, there are still red links in the News and Selected biography section.--cj | talk 05:39, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I've removed the red links from the bio panel, and started a stub for the red link in the news. Stumps 09:35, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
This portal still has redlinks. Perhaps it might be an idea to select content a few weeks in advance. Valentinian (talk) / (contribs) 11:26, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks - always a good idea; I added a couple for this week; if others could stick some in for coming weeks, I think that would be good. Anyone else in favor of either eliminating the poetry quotes or moving them to monthly? Sam 16:52, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Monthly sounds good to me ... with the change for 2006 to 2007 coming it might provide a good opportunity to re-assess the frequency of updates on the various panels. Stumps 17:03, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Do you know how to set up the new year? I'm happy to try to line up some images, a few poems and some language corner entries going forward. Sam 17:09, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changes and Request for Submissions!

I switched the quote to monthly and got rid of the "Did you know?" box, which had gone red.

We could really use more material, especially for the poems, which are still weekly. Please, add away! Sam 17:33, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Links to pages

So i was browsing around wikiworld, when I stubled upon the "epic of Roy", wikipedians effort to write the worlds longest poem. However, when I tryed to return to it, It took me 15 minutes to fail to locate it in this portal or in the article on epic poetry; furthermore, the search results did nothing (The search feature is one of wikipedia's few weak spots in my opinion). Me thinks maybe a link or two could be useful, and it would certainly get more people involved in the project which is paramount if it is to suceed. Just my thoughts, have a nice day!

[edit] Trouble

It appears that the maintainer of this portal is pretty much done maintaining. Is it time to remove this portal from featured status or will someone else step up? Planetneutral talk 06:38, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Submitting poetry

There should be a page where users can post their own poetry. There used to be one, but it was removed, and I have no clue why. NIRVANA2764 23:25, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it was at the Sandbox before it got deleted. I agree we should be able to post our poetry here. Why not create a portal subpage for it? Think outside the box 11:58, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
User's personal poetry is not really notable is it. This is, after all, an encyclopedia, rather than your own personal website. I assume this is the reason that was given at the time, as well as the potential copyright reasons (inspired by/blatantly copied from a published work). Philipwhiuk 07:12, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Couldn't add "chicano poetry" to the correct "Major Topics" section

I was trying to add "chicano poetry" as another topic under "By culture, nationality or language" but I couldn't. It automatically went on to make a new category on the bottom. "Chicano Poetry" is not a new topic-- it already exists, but is not indexed here on the portal. Thanks for your help. Couponsfordogs 00:32, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
