Poding Memorial Library

Poding Memorial Library (Traditional Chinese: 波錠紀念圖書館; Simplified Chinese: 波锭纪念图书馆) is the library at Chaoyang University of Technology. Established in 1994. The construction of the new library building began on June 1997, and was completed in March 1999. The library currently contains over 390 thousand volumes (in 2007).

The first class of Chaoyang University of Technology started in August 1994, and in the same year, the library opened on October 11. It located on the third floor of the University's Teaching Building temporarily served as the library's quarters. It was divided into a periodical and reference room, stacks, and a reading room. Afterward, the collection of library increased so rapidly that it became necessary to add western book stacks and more separate rooms in November 1996 to satisfy the needs of users. After a year of planning, the construction of the new library building began on June 28, 1997, and was completed in March 1999. The library was named Poding Memorial Library, after the parents of University's founder, Dr. Yang Tien-sheng. Poding Memorial Library is not only dedicated to the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Yang, who made their children success in their career, but also serves as a reminder to the students of the University that the time of preparation and the hard work lie behind all great achievements.
The Library was planned as an automated facility from its inception, and after a wide-ranging evaluation and consideration, it adopted the URICA automation system. The system is now linked to the University's computer network, so that readers can conduct on-line searches from anywhere on campus. In 1997, the OPAC interface was upgraded to a WWW format, making user access even more convenient.
