Pocasset is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Bourne in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States, located on Buzzards Bay. The population was 2,671 at the 2000 census.

The name is Wampanoag from: pukqui, "hole"; ass, "small"; and et, a locative ending:

pukqu'-ass-et
"at the small cove or hole"

with reference to Pocasset harbor.

Pocasset is located at 41°41′27″N, 70°36′60″W (41.690761, -70.616581)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 25.4 km² (9.8 mi²). 9.7 km² (3.8 mi²) of it is land and 15.7 km² (6.1 mi²) of it (61.91%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,671 people, 1,277 households, and 753 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 275.0/km² (712.8/mi²). There were 2,038 housing units at an average density of 209.8/km² (543.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.26% White, 1.27% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.52% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.

There were 1,277 households out of which 17.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% were married couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% were non-families. 35.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.09 and the average family size was 2.70.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 16.1% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 20.5% from 25 to 44, 30.4% from 45 to 64, and 28.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 50 years. For every 100 females there were 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $47,523, and the median income for a family was $62,596. Males had a median income of $43,889 versus $31,971 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $26,866. About 1.7% of families and 4.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.9% of those under age 18 and 2.2% of those age 65 or over.
