Poaching (snowboarding)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poaching is the act of snowboarding at a resort where snowboards are explicitly prohibited.

Poaching is intended as a form of protest against what snowboarders view as segregation. Few resorts continue to bar snowboarders, so in the United States poaching is only possible at three resorts: Deer Valley, Alta Ski Resort, and Mad River Glen.

[edit] Sabotage Stupidity

Sabotage Stupidity[1] is a contest created by Burton Snowboards to encourage the average snowboarder to go out and poach the three resorts that do not allow snowboarders. Jake Burton has a strong view on poaching the previously mentioned resorts when he comments, "In the face of this blatant and aggressive disregard for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America, poaching isn’t simply a peaceful form of protest, it is truly your patriotic duty."*

[edit] 10 Commandments

Burton Snowboards have established The Ten Commandments for Poaching and include: 1. "Whatever you do, don't break the law."[2] 2. "Always buy a lift ticket."[3] 3. "Hit 'em when and where they least expect it; but make sure to keep it safe, stay inbounds, and always wear safety equipment."[4] 4. "Bro down with the enemy."[5] 5. "Keep it peaceful, maaaaaan."[6] 6. "Always respect Ski Patrol; even if they tackle you."[7] 7. "Scout the forbidden fruits, study trail maps and satellite images online."[8] 8. "Remember: Ass out, knees bent in the moguls."[9] 9. "Splitboarding is your friend."[10] 10. "Last but not least, keep it brofressional."[11]
