PMT Dance Company, founded by Pavan M. Thimmaiah, is a New York City based dance company that incorporates a storyline into elements of Hip Hop, Funk, and Jazz dance. It was formed as an extention of the PMT Seasonal Showcase Company, a critically reviewed New York based company the produces 16 shows a year. It has performed both locally and on international venues, including the International Bollywood Movie Awards and in concert with various recording artists. [1]

PMT Dance Company has performed at various venues, including a number of collegiate events and showcases at New York University, the Sensing Peace Documentary Gala and the International Dance Festival where Pavan Thimmaiah was a featured choreographer in a night honoring male choreographers entitled "Men at Work." In July of 2006, PMT Dance Company was chosen to perform in Toronto at the Canadian National Exhibition.

PMT Dance Company also headlined and opened the 2003 Bollywood Movie Awards after being discovered at a PMT Seasonal Showcase production. The performance was broadcast worldwide, and was a stepping stone for the young company at the time. [2]

PMT Dance Company recently completed a run of their first feature length production called "Struck..." "Struck..." was a collaborative effort which featured a culmination of work by Pavan Thimmaiah as well as the choreography of Jed Forman, Yesid Lopez and Alan Watson.

[edit] About the Founder

In 2001, in addition to founding what is now known as the PMT Seasonal Showcase Company, Pavan also founded PMT Dance Studio, a New York City based dance studio, which offers a diverse range of dance classes ranging from Hip Hop and Break Dancing to Modern and Jazz, rehearsal space, and performance opportunities to professionals and students alike. Since that time, Pavan has been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers and has headed dance seminars across the east coast. He has performed and choreographed for a number of venues and events, including the Bollywood International Movie Awards 2003, the International Dance Festival (2006), Canadian National Exposition, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and MTV. Pavan has choreographed for the Miss America State Pageants while performing in shows and concerts with the likes of Apache Indian and Sean Paul. Currently, Pavan is choreographing for new artists from various record labels, including Stefani Vara and the XYZ Affair. Pavan is also featured in the "Break Dancing Made Simple" video series while being in production for “Breakin’ 101” and “Hip Hop Dance 101” video series.

Pavan’s teaching credits include Peridance, Ballet Arts and the Wadleigh School for the Performing Arts (as a faculty member) as well as the School of American Ballet as a guest teacher. Pavan continues to teach and expand the Hip Hop dance curriculum at NYU, Long Island University and PMT Dance Studio.
