[edit] DYK congratulations

Updated DYK query On 20 March 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ernest Beaux, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Congratulations! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

You are very welcome - I must admit I am not sure that I know who you are (i.e. if I knew you under your old username). If you want to email me, my email link is enabled. If not, no problem. In any case, welcome back and keep up the good work, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Seth Maberry

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Seth Maberry, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. BJBot (talk) 04:00, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User:Madeye777

Why have you decided to go from no warnings to level 4? Notices of speedy deletion do not count as warnings, I would suggest using an 'im' template if you want to do it immediately. That is only, however, if you have some evidence they are acting under bad faith, otherwise I would suggest using an earlier template. αѕєηιηє t/c 06:11, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

He has no vandalism notices, but yes, I see what you mean. I suppose it could be construed as 'subtle vandalism', and that is possible, but going from none to a four should only be done when banning needs to be done imminently - like if the editor is utilizing automated tools to vandalise the wiki or whatever, and it needs to be stopped quickly to undo their vandalism. I strongly urge you to turn it down to a level 3, but it is your choice. αѕєηιηє t/c 06:18, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
It's editors like yourself who don't take offence to others raising concerns that make Wikipedia such a great place. Have a nice day! :) αѕєηιηє t/c 06:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you for the cookie. Just wanted to stop by and let you know how I am getting on, actually I am still having a few problems, this time i keep getting tagged for Vandalism but I have NO idea why!? All i have been doing is looking at articles and reading my messages and looking at html in similar articles to get ideas of how to write a wiki.

Hopefully will all get sorted soon. Thanks for not deleting my article. Ijust re-wrote my Carolena Nericcio article also, just waiting to see if that one gets tagged for anything or not. I bet they will find something i have done wrong and boot me off again, lol Oh well, I will get there in the end :) Enjoy your cookie :) ChaosBaby (talk) 02:16, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

well, I was able to get done early! still substantial facts can be added to it, from source #1, which is nearly an encyclopedia article on it's own. It's a stub right now, but i still have some additional info to add. LukeTheSpook (talk) 22:31, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Whilst I agree this user is adding unwelcome comment, I would advise that it be dealt with according to Wikipedia's policies.

  1. [1] Users can write about themselves in their own user space.
  2. [2] If a neutral editor removes a speedy tag you have placed you cannot put it back.
  3. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] If an editor places a hangon tag from an article you have tagged for speedy deletion then removing their tag is vandalism.

The end does not justify the means. Ros0709 (talk) 22:31, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] misunderstanding?

I am not anti-AMerican. I lved in USA for 20 years and my mother is an American citizen. I disagree with american policies and extreme neoconservative thinking that hurt America and its people. I been living in Japan for a while, but when I live in NYC 15 years ago, there was never such anti-American sentiment around the people I knew. Now a days, Americans that I know - expats, tell me its broken. I told giovani not to fight but just let POV editors delete the articles if they want to! Should we delete any article that criticizes America, Israel, Japan, or any other country? It is good that you said that you are a proud American, more Americans need to say that and put America back on its real course not where it is going now! America use to be a strong proud country, but what is it today? Wars. Wars, even the dollar is shit! Housing bubble and bad loans. Do you think that does not hurt the whole world? Everybody is looking to America for guidance. Please guide us! Igor Berger (talk) 07:35, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The latest in the User:Goth and Throbb99 saga

If you remember back to late February, you reported the above user of problematic editing, with no communication at all with those who had issues with his editing. As an FYI, the latest in the continuing saga can be found here. Checkuser has confirmed connections between the various accounts (not really in doubt, IMHO), but has shown that blocking the underlying IP to close him down once and for all is imprectical. Which means I'm back to playing whack-a-mole with his socks as I find them. He'll almost certainly be back with a new account in the next day or two. If you see any accounts you think are him, please let me know, and I'll take a WP:DUCK to them, and block them if it is indeed him.

As I've said a number of times, if he would just communicate with others about their problems with his editing, I would not be continuing to block him like this. But as long as his communication is nil, I'm not sure what else we can do. - TexasAndroid (talk) 17:54, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User:Beholdthecrucifixion and Chaos Prevails

IMHO, just let it go. The way I see it, the bigger a deal that's made about whether he's a sockpuppet, the more he can play the "I am unfairly accused!" card. I say just leave him alone - don't push any buttons on his talk page or the AfD - and one of two things will happen:

  1. He will quietly go away and not bother anyone.
  2. He will do something more brazen to get attention, at which point he can be warned/blocked for his conduct.

The last thing I want to do right now is block him on a (IMHO, weak) sockpuppetry accusation, and let him cry that he was provoked and unfairly accused. Hopefully, he shapes up and behaves. If not, there's an expression we use in officiating regarding unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and coaches: let them have enough rope, and they'll hang themselves. —C.Fred (talk) 17:02, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

It seems odd that this article was called a horrible attack article, when it was also deleted as a copyright violation of a news article [8] which confirmed the statements in the article. Edison (talk) 01:26, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

We have deleted any number of TrueCrime stories per WP:NOT#NEWS or its predecessor WP:NOTNEWS, but I've half a mind to re-create this as a (non-copyvio) article, if it looks like it had continuing news coverage. The name chosen by the article creator drew a nameblock because it was the same as the article subject, but it seemed unlikely the murderer was actually creating the article. That said, I have sometimes edited the Thomas Edison article. I am not he. Edison (talk) 03:41, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Inline citations

Hallo there, this is a response to your post on Editor Assistance. To add an inline reference you simply need to add a link enclosed in <ref> </ref> tags and write "<references />" under a references header at the bottom of the article. You can also expand on this by using the {{cite web}} template.

For example:

  • A simple version, giving ref #1.[1]
  • A more complex version, giving ref #2.[2]

[edit] Desert Sands Charter High School - Speedy Delete

Howdy! Um...I'm kinda new on this wikipedia and am learning as I go. I found other high schools within the same district that had information listed under their respective schools and thought what a great idea to list our information under ours since it was empty. I am an employee of the school and had permission from higher authority to proceed and to use whatever resources I felt were necessary. It was never my intention to utilize wikipedia to promote or advertise our website. My intent was simply to inform. But it's all good. I've struggled through the learning process to add content and removed stuff I thought could be considered promotional and still it gets deleted no matter what changes I made. It's not a big enough deal for me to care one way or another. Just thought I'd explain my actions...not that it really matters since you admins sift through garbage pages regularly. But anyway, I'm tired of rewriting and revamping to suit, so I'm done. Sorry to have caused you any annoyance. I won't bother you anymore. Thanks anyway. Late. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seekperson (talkcontribs) 23:22, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] On the Academy of Wireless Arts, Video and Entertainment

I only posted this article on here after I had seen the name on several actors/singers/producers' articles in the "Awards" section (written into the awards chart out of sync with other awards mentions, I'm afraid). I don't even see that much of a mention of Kip Hartman on Google, as far as his being a "telecommunications industry veteran" is concerned. That's the reason why I stated that the AWAVE is, more or less, a vehicle for the Wave Awards (looks dubious). --Toussaint 23:50, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Brian Sherwin

Hi. You deleted my bio on Brian Sherwin before there was any talk about it. You also said, "Also, please don't add "spam" links to existing articles. [edit] Re: Short articles.

They cannot be expanded if editors don't know they exist. The extinct species articles requested at AFC are often one or two sentences long, and then the sources are given. Please leave it off. Winnifred-Ian-Leonard-Harry-Ellen-Lucy-Marilyn-Ingrid-Nora-Amanda Walter-Ira-Lauren-Lalla (talk) 04:05, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

You're right, it does get rather tedious and circular when you follow a pattern in "check for existence", "if it's red, create", "label as stub and provide-source", "document that you made this one" several times. It's just that I'm passing the time while waitng for a suggestion I believe is going to pop up at AFC very soon (not relating to extinct species, but involving historical figures). But maybe you're right; I ought to work on expanding what I'lve already done for a while. Thanks for the cooperation and advice!!! Suggestion. Until the WP:AIV results. Never respond to the user. Rgoodermote  19:26, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
I actually see downfall to that idea however. Established users could get blocked by mistake and also I have seen people who have gone from creating vanity articles to become great editors also...no community support. Even I would shoot that suggestion down. Not a bad idea though but implementation is flawed. By the way. Before getting in trouble for forum activity. It best to stop here. Yeah typical thing to do with these users is to just see what an admin says and then from there attempt to help if the admin does not take action. Rgoodermote  19:34, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy on Stillwater jr. high school

Regarding the page Stillwater jr. high school, which you tagged for speedy deletion on the basis of G4, I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because G4 only applies to articles previously deleted though a deletion discusion. If you still want the page to be deleted, please re-tag it under a CSD criterion that applies, consider redirecting the article, or use the proposed deletion or the articles for deletion processes. Thanks! And don't worry, this is a relatively common mistake. Another of the CSD may be valid, so feel free to add one that is. --lifebaka (Talk - Contribs) 02:35, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Here's her request for adminship—failed—but when she got a chance to steal mine, you never saw a dinosaur move faster. So if you need any admin action, come to User:Bishzilla. Always ready to help! Stay nimble, though; Bishzilla always hungry, too! Little Lucky want nominating for adminship, apply to 'zilla, she be honored! (Would be her first nomination ever, so little Lucky be honored, too!) [edit] Maryam Hooleh

What really distresses me is the possibility that there really is a Maryam Hooleh and that she may in fact be at least marginally notable, somewhere under all that vanispamcruftisement. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:11, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] RE: KrysC Bang

Hey there! Thanks for reporting that account and the sock. In the future, if you've got a promotional username to report, feel free to use WP:UAA, which is reserved for those sorts of reports. Thanks for helping out! Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 04:51, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Keep up the good work

Hi. I mentioned this on my talk page but it looks like Spellcast (talk · contribs) took care of Nickymark21 (talk · contribs) already.

If you're not familiar with the {{user}} series of templates, you might want to check them out. Unless you're wanting to direct someone to the user page itself, they're often very useful, especially in cases like this. This way, someone like me can just go straight to the contribs and talk pages. Either way, I sure do appreciate all the good work you do in vandal patrol. Cheers. [edit] William forrester

Just a couple of points about William forrester:

  • The {{nonsense}} tag is not appropriate: WP:CSD#G1 only applies when there is no meaningful content (e.g. something like, "sntaoehu s.,t soteuh .lcgy" is what G1 is meant for).
  • A quick google for "William forrester" "melbourne cup" reveals that he certainly did exist, and won the Melbourne Cup a number of times. You may want to consider taking the article to AfD, however I suspect it would end up as a weak keep requiring cleanup. I reckon some maintenance tags would be more appropriate. -- Mark Chovain 02:43, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Ahh - just saw your most recent edits. Excellent :). -- Mark Chovain 02:44, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Very well handled. I've had a shot at cleaning it up. Feel free to put maintenance tags on if you think there's anything I haven't addressed. -- Mark Chovain 03:07, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User:Daliinyare

Saw your message at WP:AN. They are sub-sub-clans. The Dir (clan) has a sub-clan called the Gadabuursi and Daliinyare is writing about the sub-clans of the Gadabuursi. Of course, there are multiple spellings of each particular clan so duplicates, his Jabril Yunus‎ was already at Jibril Yoonis, get created and as Somali clan#Clan and sub-clan groupings says there is no agreement on the structures and lineages and there are hundreds of sub-clans. It is a major problem in that there is little in the way of English sources and a lot of the editors, well meaning though they are, have English as their second or third language. In terms of Somali clan editing this guy is fairly harmless. A lot of the editing on the clans tends to be promotion of one clan and attacking another. I left Daliinyare a message with a couple of suggestions. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 00:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

No problems. You are right, it's better to have editors like that than vandals. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 01:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] MascotGuy

Thanks for the Cookies. Your familiarity with him would be helpful here. IGG. Cheers.--chaser - t 20:03, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mascot Guy

This is a banned user who has been running roughshod on this site for more than four years and with nearly 1000 blocked socks. He is unquestionably THE most prolific vandal in the history of the site. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

From what I saw from his edits, they didn't look vandal-like at all. A few helpful redirects and that's about it. HowIronic (talk) 20:04, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Have you been able to make any contact with that claimjumperpete guy? HowIronic (talk) 20:14, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I don't know how you could construe that as a "sicko". He probably has a macro running for him most of the time anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if he went to Wikipedia, turned it on, and then sipped smoothies with his friends. Has anyone attempted to netotiate with him or anything like that? Ask him why he does what he does? HowIronic (talk) 20:47, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I agree with them above, but if you have found proof that he was MascotGuy, then they need to be reverted regardless of productivity. However, I made the revert so those changes (Ronald McDonald) would be appropriate. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 02:38, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Quick service restaurants

While this redirect may be by a hard-banned user, a broken clock is right twice a day. This is a good redirect. There's no reason to speedy delete it, or delete it at all. It's absurd to have it deleted, only to have someone who is not banned to re-create it. As I will re-create it if it is deleted, just save your time and pretend that I am the creator of this redirect, as it will be if you nominate it for speedy deletion and it is deleted. [edit] Can you email me?

I'd like to discuss something with you, but not on-wiki. Can you enable your email here so I can contact you? Thanks! Nwwaew (Talk Page) (Contribs) (E-mail me) 14:48, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rollback

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. PeterSymonds (talk) 07:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome. :) I noticed on AIV yesterday that you didn't have rollback, which was a surprise to me because I'd seen you around a lot. I knew you'd put it to good use. Keep up the good work! Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 06:58, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy tagging + warning

Hey, not to be a pain but I kind of wanted to let you know that I disagree with this warning for this edit. I think those warning templates should be for bad faith edits, don't you agree? To me it looked like a brand new user that was trying to help out but didn't know how to create a redirect. How about next time leaving them a friendly note offering help and maybe explaining why articles can't be that short? (This way you don't risk being bitey). I actually talked to that user and they turned out to be really nice and in need of help, so leaving the friendly note with the offer to help would be both welcoming to them and would give them an opportunity to ask for help if they need it. Anyway, I thought I'd let you know my opinion on the matter. Hit me back on my talk if you want to discuss this further because I'm terrible at watching talk pages. ;) Peace, delldot talk 07:27, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's been turned into a redirect. Yeah, you didn't leave a final warning or anything vile like that, but you left {{uw-create1}} if I'm not mistaken, so it wouldn't have been very useful to the new user trying to figure out what they had done wrong, and I still think a friendly, personalized note would have been better. Just my $.02. Peace, delldot talk 07:34, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks so much for being cool about it. :) delldot talk 07:37, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Banned User:Pinoybandwagon

Thanks for helping with this guy and his seemingly-endless string of sockpuppets. One or two may have been meatpuppets, but the distinctive style with the "Don't revert this final edit" and "I demand to be unblocked TODAY" is easily recognized, even aside from the obsessive subject matter concentration. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User:محترف جيمز

Just to let you know -- non-latin characters are allowed in usernames, and no username should ever be blocked for this reason. Regardless of the difficulty in communicating with these users, there is nothing improper about the username. In fact, in this case, the user's account was automatically created by unified login. Mangojuicetalk 18:17, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IP vandal

The problem is that I need to delete the page to remove the history with the bad edit summaries. That removes the talk page protection, if only for a second until I reprotect. But the IP apparently has some kind of bot going that keeps trying to post the edit. I'll just wait a while. NawlinWiki (talk) 22:14, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Oh, he knows -- edit summary vandalism requires some knowledge of Wikipedia. NawlinWiki (talk) 22:16, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Got it -- all offensive edit summaries gone, page still protected. Had to work really fast. NawlinWiki (talk) 22:18, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User: kurumban

Hi PMDrive1061, thanks for your suggestions I know lot of people who knows Palani G Periyasamy, from them and some articles i got the information about him. He is one of the big business man from Tamilnadu, India. www.allwholesalesources.com/factory-news.php does not have any information about him. Please let me know the original site so that i can verify some of my information. --Kurumban (talk) 15:31, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Word of caution

PMD, please note my edit summary here, and the cautionary note therein. Assuming that others are here with the best intentions (that is, WP:assuming good faith) is essential for the encyclopedia to work effectively. Please ensure that you assume good faith when dealing with other editors; I've not been very impressed by your recent reports, especially to usernames for administrator attention. Assuming that others are here with poor intentions, even when they have edited perfectly within our norms, isn't a good way to go; keep a check on that.

Apologies for the robust nature of this note, but I'd just like to nip this in the bud right now.

Regards, Anthøny 16:41, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
