David Plutado Fugate is a nationally known organizing strategist, writer, and entreprenuer. He is the founding chairman and executive director of Youth Empowerment America.
David’s desire to create an organization that recognized young people’s ability to envision, organize, and serve in decision-making capacities for creating positive change in their communities led the the founding of Youth Empowerment America (YEA) in 1996, when David was 16 years old. YEA was formally incorporated in the November 2000, and was officially recognized as a charitable organization by the IRS in November, 2002.
David is also an active participant and developer in the burgening opensource movement. Using opensource technology, he has launched community networking, collaboration, and reference sites.
David speaks and gives workshops on subjects such as youth empowerment, human rights, netroot and grassroots organizing, community organzing criteria, improving schools, and juvenile justice.
David has been recognized as one of the nation's preeminent young activists and organizers by civil rights leaders, authors, politicians, large civic organizations, the media, and his peers.
David is currently writing his first book, and is involved with several media projects.
