- "I don't think I'd agree. On evolution, she is using the same arguments used by professional "skeptics" (pseudoskeptics?) such as creationists (have a look at the debates that take place over at the evolution article). "But evolution is not a fact. It is a theory with holes in it". Well, it is a fact; and, while there is debate about aspects of the modern synthesis, to characterise it in the way she does is a classic creationist tactic, as are her remarks on teaching evolution in schools. Similarly, "but science does not fill the gaps in our understanding of existence. It does not explain the irreduceable complexity of certain cells for example, which cannot have been formed by simple organisms coming together" could be lifted straight from an intelligent design tract. Superficially, she has a good point about scientism, but both cited articles are pushing an agenda that goes far beyond this."

[edit] Ocean intro
Old version
An ocean (from Ωκεανός, Okeanos (Oceanus) in Greek) is a principal part of the hydrosphere: a major body of saline water that, in totality, covers about 70% of the Earth's surface (or an area of some 361 million square kilometers). Nearly half of the world's marine (oceanic) waters are over 3,000 meters (9,800 ft) deep. Average oceanic salinity is around 35 parts per thousand (ppt) (3.5%), and nearly all seawater has a salinity in the range of 31 to 38 ppt.
My version
An ocean (from Ωκεανός, Okeanos (Oceanus) in Greek) is a major body of saline water, and a principal component of the hydrosphere. Approximately 70% of the Earth's surface (an area of some 361 million square kilometers) is covered by ocean, with more than half of this area over 3,000 meters (9,800 ft) deep. There are several geographical categorisations of the ocean area on Earth, with different schemes recognising 1 (World Ocean), 3 (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian oceans), 4 (+ Southern Ocean) or even 5 (+ Arctic Ocean) oceans. Average oceanic salinity is around 35 parts per thousand (ppt) (3.5%), and nearly all seawater has a salinity in the range of 31 to 38 ppt.
[edit] Cydonia
- In Mission to Mars, a group of astronauts discover that the "face formation" is actually a structure built by the Martians.
- The Face on Mars was also featured in the first season episode "Space" of the television series The X-Files.
- In the TV show Invader Zim, the episode "Battle of the Planets" featured the Face on Mars as an alien structure.
- In the episode "Where The Buggalo Roam" of Futurama features the Face of Mars as the entrance to the Martian Reservation, the home of the native Martians.
- In the TV show Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive, the Face on Mars helps the Power Rangers find a relic on Earth.
- The alternative rock band Muse have a song called "Knights of Cydonia" on their album Black Holes and Revelations.
- In the adventure game Zak McKracken, players explore the Face on Mars.
- In the strategy game X-COM: UFO Defense, the final assault on the alien headquarters ("Cydonia or Bust") occurs in the Cydonia region.
- In the console role playing game Final Fantasy IV (1991) the face appears on the surface of the moon.
- The Cruxshadows album Telemetry of a Fallen Angel features the face prominently, including a picture of the formation and a song which describes it.
"Cydonia and the Face on Mars appear frequently in popular culture, including feature films[1], television series[2], videogames[3] and even music[4][5].
