Talk:Plug-in (Escape Velocity)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Is this true: "A total conversion usually completely replaces the game's scenario. Particularly with EV Nova, this has become the dominant form of plug-in"? A quick peek at [1] shows that of the top downloaded plug-ins, the only total conversion on the top 10 list is Polycon, and 8 of the other top 10 plugs are just plug-ins for the standard EVN scenario.

Total conversions (particularly Polycon, EV Classic, and EV Override (and the SFA Beta when it was available)) are definitely popular, but I think the page overstates this. -- Kaszeta 17:53, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

These days everyone wants total conversions, and everyone wants to make total conversions; there's very little respect for the sorts of plug-ins that were the standard in the days of Escape Velocity. The problem is that they very seldom get finished, which is why the number of significant plug-ins for EV Nova is so low compared to those for the previous games if you look back to three years after they were released. I suppose it could be reworded a bit, but this is what I was trying to convey. David Arthur

I reworded it a bit to reflect your comments. -- Kaszeta 20:34, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

There were also plug-ins that were just add-ons and not total or partial conversions. One example is my old "More EV Voices" plug-in that added more voice responses to the original game in addition to the voice responses that I did as part of the official release. (The plug-in voices were later added as standard voices in EV Override.) --PatrickD 02:23, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I've added Zacha Pedro's Rezilla Custom to the list of editors. In addition, I've mentioned the use of ConText/ResStore for large-scale manipulation. I don't like the way I've written it, however – could someone find a better way to express "This can be particularly useful for modifying many resources at once, as many spreadsheet programs provide the ability to fill cells."? [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:EVNovaPluginViewedInResEdit.jpg

Image:EVNovaPluginViewedInResEdit.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
