[edit] Flower No.5

Isn't that the bird of paradise (Strelitzia reginae)? Hajor 19:57, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Nope, I've got one in my backyard and that's definitely not the same plant. --Dante Alighieri 20:10, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)
It's a Heliconia. Strelitzia are native to Africa. Hadal 20:12, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)

OK, I stand corrected. Thanks! Hajor 20:16, 8 Feb 2004 (UTC)

[edit] From the Photographer

Any help on this page appreicated, I'm more into hikeing in the jungle and taken pictures of what intrest me not in HTML etc... If there is anything you want pictures of let me know I have alot of Mayan freinds and if you can give me a common nambe I bet we can get a picture. I live in a small village and the people here are not literate nor worldly and find this site fasicnateing I try to give back to the village as much as I can, help with the school and such. My next big project is trying to get water here year round right now we are without water about 2 months out of the year as the stream our water comes from dries up. Everybody uses rain catch during that time. Unfortunatly the water is untreated and vistors usaly get sick until they get use to it. I'm writeing a purposal to submit to the world bank for money to put in a better system.

[edit] Notes

Okay I Belizian took most of these pictures (well all of em so far) and will be adding alot more as time permits. Right now I'm building a house in the jungle to be close to the nature I love, just wish I knew more about the names of the stuff I take picures of. I do know alot about the habits as I observe most of my subjects daily as they live in the jungle surrounding my building site. A few are taken elsewhere but not many. I have a lot of picutres of villagers, villages, Mayan ruins, and the country side but I'm not sure where to post them.

Is it just my browser or is there a problem with the thumbnail of the Iguana? -- User:Docu

[edit] New policy

To make live easier on me Iv'e institued a new policy of nameing files I upload in sequence it's not discribtive other than showing they are related to Belize but it makes uploading and adding to the page much easier. Belizian 18:37, 2004 Feb 12 (UTC)

That's fine, just see if there is another image already with that name on Belize. Or alternatively, you could add something to the name that will probably make it relatively unique, and you won't overwrite someone's image, and someone else won't overwrite your images later on. For example you could name them belize-abc-XXX.jpg where abc could just be some string that you prefer and that stays the same for all images, and the XXX are the numbers like you've been doing. [edit] Page getting too large

I think we should come up with a way to split up the page. It is pretty hard to load it on a dialup modem. I think one division could be plants and animals being separate. But even those two pages might get too large. Perhaps we should have a series of pages for plants, and a series of pages for animals. We can decide on the maximum number of images that should be placed on a single page. For now, I have made the thumbnails 100px so that it is a bit easier to load the page. Dori | Talk 23:09, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)

How about this setup:

  • Flora of Belize which will contain any possible text on the flora, as well as links to several separate pages that will be part of a series: i.e. Photographs of the Belize flora (1), Photographs of the Belize flora (2), Photographs of the Belize flora (3), etc. where each page has say 12 pictures of flora.
  • Fauna of Belize which will contain any possible text on the fauna, as well as links to several separate pages that will be part of a series: i.e. Photographs of the Belize fauna (1), Photographs of the Belize fauna (2), Photographs of the Belize fauna (3), etc. where each page has say 12 pictures of fauna.

Sounds good to me Belizian 00:01, 2004 Feb 14 (UTC)

Actually I think Flora of Belize and Fauna of Belize are sort of redundant so I redirected them to this page. I made a table for the different pages, and stored it on Template:belizepics so that it can be easily updated. Belizian, each page will have up to 12 pics, so whenever you need to add new pics, start filling up the pages (up to 12 and then go on to the next one). Just follow the formatting of the previous entries and you should be fine. If someone has any other comments, suggestions, let me know. Dori | Talk 00:39, Feb 14, 2004 (UTC)
I couldn't decide what image to put in the table, so I put the flag. If someone thinks of a good one, please change it on Template:belizepics. Dori | Talk 00:49, Feb 14, 2004 (UTC)
Shouldn't fauna Be capitilized? Belizian 01:58, 2004 Feb 14 (UTC)
My guess is that it shouldn't since it's not a proper name, but you go ahead if you want to. Dori | Talk 02:08, Feb 14, 2004 (UTC)
It just looks funny the way it is.

[edit] Reorganized

I'm not a big fan of pages split up into completely arbitrary sections like this one was, and there's a new "gallery" plugin that makes for very easy-to-edit image galleries, so I've merged the flora and fauna galleries into Photographs of the Belize fauna and Photographs of the Belize flora. Hope this wasn't excessively bold. If the pages need to be split up again, how about doing it on the basis of what kind of plant or animal the images depict (eg. birds, mammals, invertebrates, etc.)?
