Talk:PLASA
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I suspect a disambig page needs to be set up between this page and a new page under Plasa (the former title of this article) about Romania. SheffGruff 23:58, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- If there are just the two articles, {{otheruses4}} and {{For}} should work more easily than a disambiguation template. So I added them. -- SiobhanHansa 00:23, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] References
A couple of assertions have had inappropriate references added, which I removed with reasons only to have the sources added back without addressing the concerns. So I assume my edit summaries were just missed. - I re-added fact tags and commented the provided references out saying "see talk for details" so here are the details!
- For the lobbying and research claim the source provided was merely a list of members, the assertion isn't about membership it's that PLASA engages in high profile lobbying, that its lobbying and research lead to greater recognition for the industry, and that it engaged in a specific campaign around radio spectrum sales for its members. This assertion needs sources that shows PLASA engages in high profile lobbying, and that its research and lobbying is effective at building better recognition for the industry. Both of which, being claims about their effectiveness, require independent sources. We also need something which shows PLASA engaged in the specific campaign mentioned - also, preferably an independent source, though an internal source could be OK if we have independent sources that verify the reputation of the org in this area.
- For the trade show source, I don't think the fact they host a trade show is contentious, it's the assertion that it is the main European exhibition for the sector. This really needs independent sourcing, ideally from places with a reputation for NPOV analysis of the sector.

I hope adding references to the recent government lobbying helps to establish how busy PLASA is in this respect - even though I have taken out the "high-profile" part to make the whole paragraph more objective. I hope this helps. --Oliverkinne 11:41, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- While the removal of an unsourced assertion is good - what we are left with is an article that is entirely sourced from PLASA's website, with no indication of how the organization is viewed by external sources. The fact that PLASA is busy in a particular area is niether here nor there from an encycloedic perspective - we need to emphasize the impact PLASA has on the world, not what they would like to be good at. So the current emphasis on PLASA's actions is not appropriate. The listing of what PLASA does ought to be much shorter and involve much less implication that the work has value. I'll have a go at re-writing shortly - with the intention of making it more encycloedic and less brochure-ish. -- SiobhanHansa 12:52, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
I think I understand what you mean and would be interested to see how your rewrite comes out. I'll make sure I check the entry regularly to see what your solution looks like - and then I can learn from it what works for other entries. So thank you again for your help. You've been really good at sorting things out for me so far. --Oliverkinne 16:13, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry I haven't got on with this yet. Will try and have a go tomorrow. -- SiobhanHansa 02:41, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
