Player generated content

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Player Generated Content is the concept of game content being created by the players of the game, as opposed to being created by a game's publisher or author.

Player generated content is common in tabletop role playing games where a game master creates a narrative or adventure for the other players to encounter.

Interfaces for player generated content has been attempted in various PC games such as Neverwinter Nights and Counterstrike with limited success, as the interface to create usable levels is too difficult for the average user to understand and successfully manipulate.

Player generated content is taking a step in a new direction with the release of TerraDrive, a Roleplaying Game published by Technomancer Press[1]. Players are able to develop a science-fiction universe on a wiki, including systems, planets, ships, alien species, and factions. Technomancer Press will publish TerraDrive adventures and other books based on the content created by the players. This is a first in print publishing.[2] The wiki, called the TerraDrive Universe went online June 29, 2007. As of July 13, 2007, it had over 850 page edits and 200 pages. [3]
