Playa Grande is a beach town in Costa Rica just north of Tamarindo. The beach has excellent surfing. While it is close to Tamarindo, the only way to reach Playa Grande is to swim across the Tamarindo River (beware of cayman) and then walk the beach for 20 minutes or drive inland, cross the river, and take the dirt road to Playa Grande.
