Play On is the debut and, thus far, only album of British singer/song writer Emma Holland. It was released in late 2002 by Jive UK on the very same day that the record label ceased trading. As such the author of this album did not profit that greatly from it.

[edit] Subjects and Songs

Subjects cover all nearly all aspects of life and love from the rather brash uncompromising openeing of From Now On:

An unfamiliar bed, a scent that I don't recognise. A thousand tiny deaths, my mother would be mortified.

To the rather introspective Lately:

Oh could it possibly be that there's more than just me, it's of vital importance.

To the amiable resignation of the title track:

You can't stop the world so let it play on, play on...

Lately also contains a possible expression of remorse for her father (whom she legally divorced aged 15 in a bid to get out of Dorking):

I've been thinking about my father, and the pain that I've been inflicting
But he told me not the bother, because he's never seen himself as victim

[edit] Reception

The album was generally well received over its short life, making a lot of airplay on Radio 2 in particular. Other quarters criticised it for being too transatlantic in style, and whilst certainly does have such elements to it, whether or not that is actually a bad thing is very much a matter for individual taste.

[edit] Follow-Up

According to Holland's myspace site her new album is now at the mixing stage and is due out this year.
