Plantago amplexicaulis is an annual plant of the family Plantaginaceae and the genus Plantago that grows in dry sand and deserts.[3]

P. amplexicaulis is a member of a special "flowering desert" community of plants called therophytes; at least one of P. amplexicaulis communities include Silene villosa and Senecio glaucus. Other annual therophytes include Schouwia thebaica (a Brassicaceae), Citrullus colocynthis and Astragalus vogelii.[4]
