Planetfest

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Planetfest is a music festival put on yearly by WPLA Planet Radio 107.3 in Jacksonville, Florida. It was started in 1999 and (with the exception of 2001) has continued every year since then. The show is known for its relatively low ticket prices for the large number of national and local bands. The event features some of the biggest names in modern rock every year and continues to grow in size. In addition, WPLA has put on "Mutha Shuckin Birthday" in 2005 to celebrate the station's 10th year.

In addition to the music, WPLA radio personalities Lex and Terry - originally based in Jacksonville but now based in Dallas, Texas - make appearances at the annual event along with their staff.

[edit] Setup

Planetfest is a music festival with two stages for bands to perform. On the smaller stage, called the JackRabbits stage after a local venue, local bands play 30 to 45 minute sets. These bands participate in a 'Battle of the Bands' event earlier in the year - the top nine acts perform at the festival. The larger main stage is where the featured performers play. Main acts play a 45 minute to one hour-plus set with 30 minute breaks between acts for stage preparation and breakdown.

Outside of the two stages, local fund-raising groups and restaurants sell food and drinks while other event sponsors advertise their wares. In addition, the Marines have a recruiting station at each festival.
