[edit] History
Plainfield South High School opened its doors in August of 2001. The school was the second high school in Plainfield School District 202 and its location, south of the original Plainfield High School, gave it its name.
Plainfield South had an initial enrollment of only Freshman and Sophomores. An additional freshman class was added each of the next two years, until PSHS had a full complement of classes in the school year 2003-04.
The school itself consists of more than 200 classrooms, a competition gymnasium, fieldhouse, auditorium, media center, state of the art technology, cafeteria and commons area. Outdoor facilities include a 4,000 seat stadium, baseball and softball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts and an all weather track. The stadium is serviced by a "stadium building" which includes locker rooms, a training room, restroom facilities and concession area.
The class of 2004 named Cletus the Cougar as the school's official mascot. During the 2004-2005 school year, the school song was changed from a piece written by Brian Van Kley, the original band director, to the University of Michigan fight song.
