Category talk:Plant families

This is an experiment in "slicing" - instead of making categories imitate ToL, this puts all families in Plantae in a single cat. Useful for assessing coverage, common vs Latin names, etc. Stan 15:22, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- I'd suggest moving this to Category:Flowering plant families to include only Angiosperm families, with conifers, ferns, etc., having their own separate categories - MPF 09:29, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Will each of those have sufficient members to support their own subcats? (I don't know, seems hard to get a straight story on the numbers of plant families in general). Also, I take it that the basic concept of a family category makes sense to you? I'm a little less enthused about this category than initially, because a category can't include monotypic families that are just redirs, so you can't quite use it to find a family whose name is so imperfectly remembered that Google-type searching doesn't return any matches. - Hi Stan - take a look over Category:Conifers and its subcategories and see what you think; I've got that categorised now to my satisfaction. There's a full list of flowering plant families at Wikipedia Tree of Life/Update of the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group#CLASSIFICATION_OF_FLOWERING_PLANTS; there's plenty of them, though far from all have wiki articles yet - MPF 19:38, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I thought Bixa was in its own family. -- Bill Overal —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.129.128.7 (talk) 20:25, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
