User talk:Pjorg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hi, Pjorg, and welcome to Wikipedia! The size and scope of this project can sometimes be daunting for newcomers, so I thought I would say hello and offer you a few helpful links that might make contributing easier (and I do hope you will continue to stay and contribute).
- For a good quick introduction to Wikipedia and how it's used, check out Wikipedia:Introduction and the Wikipedia:Tutorial. There are also some tips for avoiding common mistakes.
- Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia gives lots of good suggestions for things you can help out with around the encyclopedia, if you're looking for ideas!
- How to edit a page and the Manual of Style offer some tips and guidelines to formatting your work here on Wikipedia; if you're looking for more help, check out the Help:Contents.
- While Wikipedia is many things, there are also many things it cannot effectively be. Try and familiarize yourself with the policies regarding writing from a neutral point of view and what wikipedia is not.
- Hesitant to begin? Be bold! Wikipedia relies on editors like you to succeed, so if you see something you feel needs work, go for it!
If you've still got questions, the FAQ and the Help desk are good places to start. Listing yourself at the new user log will likely guarantee a response from friendly fellow editors as well. If there's anything I can help with, don't hestitate to drop me a note on my talk page -- just remember to sign your comments with four tildes (like this: ~~~~) and your signature will automatically be added.
Again, welcome!

Hey there. Love your BU edits. I am in the progress of making my user page and i am having problems with the placement/alignment/design of that page. I am pretty useless with compouter codes, so i hope you can help. thanks. --Bud 20:35, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks very much! I feel like we've only scratched the surface of what the BU articles could be, but it's certainly off to a good start. As for your user page, it looks pretty good to me!
[edit] World War Memorial Stadium
Yeh, I might have taken it too personally. Please see comments on the article now. You need to give me more direction as to what you object to. Wahkeenah 20:08, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- OK, see if you like it better now. Wahkeenah 21:36, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] BU - footnotes
When you "Went through and added/consolidated footnotes where possible" today in the BU article, you also scattered about a number of "citation needed" notes. I've seen Wikipedia guidance that suggests these should be used sparingly, as they could be used in a great many places and imply an urgency that could not be met in that case.
In the specific case of your request for a citation in the "Early Years" part of the History section in connection with the statement "Kilgore describes this as the largest single donation to an American college or university to that time," I believe a citation is already present.
Before you went through and did your thing today, there were no footnotes to speak of and citations were less formal, usually a reference to an author listed at the end. That is what you have here. I can find you a page number if you really think it necessary, but the reference is to Kilgore's book. I've not yet learned the footnote method you've implemented, so you'll have to put it in that format if that is what you want. Pzavon 00:48, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nickerson Field / Braves Field
Outstanding. That concourse looks like it hasn't changed since 1915 when it was built. Great stuff! d:) Wahkeenah 00:42, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reverting unfree image cleanup
Hi. Please don't do this. Not only does it make more work for people doing unfree image cleanup, it can make a mess of an article when the images are deleted. If you would like to argue for excluding logos from Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, there is an ongoing discussion at Wikipedia talk:Logos. Jkelly 02:38, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Looking for members to join Project Boston
I noticed you are from Boston. I am looking for people to join Project Boston in order to clean up and expand wikipedia articles directly related to Boston. If you feel like helping out please join up. Markco1 16:53, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BU's religious affiiliation
On 6 February 2007 you removed categories related to BU's Methodist affilliation from the main Boston University article because, as you said "BU no longer maintains any religious affilliation." BU as a University has not had a Methodist affiliation for many years. In fact, from the 1869 Charter I believe no part of the University other than Theology had a formal religious affiliation. I believe the School of Theology has maintained its affiliation from the beginning, thus making those category links appropriate. Pzavon 03:10, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- I believe you're correct about STH having an affiliation, but the template and categories suggest that the school as a whole is affiliated, which it is not. If there is a separate article for STH then I think the category would belong there. Pjorg 15:02, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Agganis arena logo.png}
Thank you for uploading Image:Agganis arena logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
-
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page.
